FAQ - Electrosoft

Error on loading Winsock 2 library (WS2_32.DLL)

Q. I cannot connect to the Electrocorder. I have selected the correct COM port in the System Setup options, but every time I try to communicate with the Electrocorder an error occurs.

A. This problem is often caused by other applications running in the background, that have taken control of the COM port you are trying to use. An common example of software that exhibits this behaviour is Palm's HotSync utility, or Micrsoft's ActiveSync.

Because only one application can access the COM port at a time, Electrosoft will be unable to use that COM port if it is already in use by another program. This is due to the fashion in which all versions of Microsoft Windows are designed.

To solve this problem, choose one of the following options:

1) Close down the program that is using the COM port when you want to use Electrosoft to communicate with an Electrocorder.
2) Configure Electrosoft and the other program to use different COM ports, removing the conflict.

Q. I cannot use Electrosoft v2.7.0 or above to communicate with my Electrocorder EC116 unit.

A. The EC116 is incompatible with versions 2.7.0 and above of Electrosoft. To acquire a version of Electrosoft that is compatible with the EC116, or upgrade your unit to an EC132 Electrocorder, please
contact us.

Please note that while you will not be able to communicate with EC116 units in the latest versions of Electrosoft, you will still be able to open and view your old data files.

Q. Electrosoft v2.7.0 or above does not run on Microsoft Windows 3.x or NT 3.51 or lower.

A. From version 2.7.0 onwards, Electrosoft became a native 32-bit application. This means that it will only run on 32-bit operating systems, such as Windows 95 or later, Windows NT 4, and Windows 2000, and will not run on Microsoft Windows v3.x. To obtain a version that will run on Windows 3.x, please
contact us. This version may also run on versions of Windows NT 3.x, but it has not been tested and its use on this platform is unsupported.
